Oscar Burciaga

Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, Oscar began dancing at age 4 with Rosa Guerrero International Folklorico.  Although performing with the group, primarily a Mexican Folklore group; Oscar also studied and performed  jazz and tap from that early age.

At age 13, Oscar was under contract with the #4 outdoor drama in the U.S. "VIVA! El Paso".  Being part of the cast for 5 years enabled Oscar to continue performing in a variety of dance genres as well as sing and act.  Upon completion of high school, Oscar left the U.S. and ventured to Mexico. 

He studied at the University of Colima focusing on dance; primarily Mexican Folklore and the Martha Graham modern dance technique.  While there, Oscar danced and
worked production for the world renowned Ballet Folklorico Universidad de Colima under the direction of Rafael Zamarripa.  During his time with the company, Oscar toured
Europe, Mexico and the U.S. and was voted "Dancer of the Year" during a tour through Spain in 1997.  His association with Maestro Zamarripa allowed him to instruct for 
Mariachi Conferences and festivals held in Texas and New Mexico along with his mentor.

Oscar returned to the U.S. and in 2002 began working as Production Manager and
dancer for the California Ballet Company, San Diego, California.  Being production
manager and dancer, Oscar not only watches the show come to life, but gets to
perform in the production as well.  Oscars credits include: Drosselmeyer -Nutcracker; Lead Mazurka/Czardas-Coppelia; Lead-Valse Triste; Lead-Gurney (with Denise
Dabrowski);  and Mad Hatter-Alice in Wonderland.  Oscar teaches Adult Ballet and is an instructor for California Ballet's Summer Intensive Workshop.  Oscar has also been a featured dancer in the San Diego Opera's La Traviata 2004 and Die Fledermouse 2005.   North County DanceArts welcomes Oscar as he takes on our young Ballet IB dancers
each and every Monday at 3:30 p.m.
